Is anyone interest in buying a Canon 50mm f/1.8 or an Olympus 50mm f/1.8?
I've used both of these lenses in combination to take pretty much all of my photos that have been posted on this blog and through my portfolio, they're both amazing lenses.

I based these prices off eBay, and made them cheaper than what you'd pay there. I bought both of these lenses for around $130 each.

To those who were wondering/Laura Eliza, this is the camera that I picked up at the op shop (used to take the pictures in my most recent post)

I love it!! Best thing is, it's made to be (pretty much) weatherproof, which is handy.

Oh and to the Anonymous who commented on my last post - of course my photos look amateur, I'm an amateur photographer! I'm not at all close to being professional, nor have I ever claimed to be.. and on the same note, those were clearly random snapshots of friends anyway :>

Found the camera I've been wanting to buy for ages in an op-shop, for $4.99. These babies cost around $70-$80 on ebay, so I thought why not, if it doesn't work it's only a $5 loss and if it does.. well I just saved myself a shitload of cash!
And guess what, it works

Deepest apologies for not giving this blog as much attention as I used to.. I can primarily blame that on school this year as it is my final year of high school and for some odd reason I feel like I need to do well. Perhaps it's some inner wish to beat my brother and sister although I wouldn't really care too much. Whatever the case I've definitely been focusing on school and not photography, apart from in art of course. I do have another trip coming up these holidays so they'll be lots of photos *and videos* from that which I will post here, and in a few weeks I've got a shoot which I've started planning and currently can't sleep thinking about it.. hopefully my friend Johnny will be styling it - http://www.veinsthud.blogspot.com/ -

But as I'm not taking photos as much this year, to keep this blog alive I was thinking of doing more inspiration posts and what not. What do you think? I don't know whether to keep it as just 'my photography' or to also post about other random things in life.

Also, I really need some music suggestion so please suggest some to me!
Ps. I'm really trying to get back to people who comment on my posts or at least check out everyones blogs. This may take time because I'm so busy I hardly spend any time blogging but I'm trying to balance things a bit more.

Competition!!

So, I entered a few of my photos in a competition and one of them got selected to be in the top 20 out of over 1400 entries!! I'm so happy about this, I've never gotten into finalists or anything like that in a competition before. One of the possible prizes is a 'People's Choice' award, so if you could, I'd really appreciate if you go onto Facebook and 'Like' the competition page so that you can then 'Like' my photo, because that's one of the ways you can vote for the people's choice.

I'm so sorry for not updating this blog as much as I should be - it turns out Year 12 is much busier than I'd anticipated it to be. However, I'm doing photography in art, so I'll have lots of shoots coming up for that in the near future (all bunched together after the next 3 weeks because they are extremely busy) I'll be so glad when this year is over. I took these pictures purely for experimentation in art. These are all on black and white film taken on my Minolta. There's a few that I really like, but it was such a challenge trying to capture all the thing that I saw and I missed so many opportunities. And such a challenge to have the subjects engage. I think I definitely prefer planning shoots rather than street-photography, but I wanted to try it for the first time.

Myself and 4 friends hopped on a train and this is where we went and what we saw. I brought my $5 Minolta along for the adventure. It was the best 4 days of my short life...

I have never done a feature before on my blog, but I felt like I had to for this photographer as she has completely inspired me.

The photographer is 15 year old Ann He. She is a film photographer. I think her work is breathtaking.

I'm going to bring my Konica along to each and every shoot now. I've only brought it with me to a shoot once, and other than that I've only used it for taking pictures of friends.

This was by far the most challenging. I've read my flash manual twice and I'm still getting used to it. It was hard to find the right exposure time so that the photo wasn't too brightly lit, but at the same time I had to let it open long enough to be able to capture the flames. Anyway, I'm happy with the results.

My friend Lauren used to live in England. She introduced me (online) to her friend Misty Miller who also lives in England. Misty is 16, and her EP came out on iTunes just a little while ago. She's an incredible singer and song writer. We both wanted me to go to England so that I could take photos of her for promotion and what not, but it was bad timing with school and it looks like I won't get to go over there until 2011, after I finish my final year of high school. So I'm counting down. It's going to be amazing meeting someone as talented as her, and her agent is also involed with a modelling agency over there and when she showed him my pictures, he said if I came over he could really help me out with my career. All I want to do is go now, and it's given me another reason for hating school..

Sooo I'm going away tomorrow and will be away for 2 weeks! You're probably sick of me anyway because I've been posting so much.. sorry!! But yeah just wanted to let you all know.

By the way I've been reading all of your comments lately, and I do think I need to experiment a bit more. I'm going to have a think over this holiday. I think a reason is that I've been shooting every spare second I have and to some extent I think I'm wearing my creativity out because I've been shooting a lot for portfolio work, so while I'm away I can really think shoots out and get some more creative ones happening, with propper story lines which I always have fun thinking up. I'm going to start experimenting a bit more with film hopefully and I do have a lot of ideas in my head but I just need to focus on how I'm going to execute them with limited rescources. But I will do them!! And also about how I get the 'dusky' effect. I guess I just change around lighting a lot. I'm always playing around with aperture, ISO, white balance and shutter speeds etc. I think a lot of it is to do with the way I position the camera into light. For example in my most recent post photo 4 and 5 both have light leaks in them. I did this by pointing the camera at the light from the sun behind some clouds, but positioning it so the sun was just coming in from the side. I also use a lot of shadows, like getting my models to face into the sun so that bits of their faces are lit up. Other than that I don't really know how exactly to get the dusky effect. I think it's all to do with lighting, and lighting is 'my bitch', as someone said.

I did a shoot today with a friend of mine and two other friends as models, but I can't post them because we want to try our luck and submit them into some magazines :) Also I promise I'll start experimenting more, but I'm still finding my feet in this photography business.

and a big question mark. At first I just deleted the comment, but then it made me think about how similar those pictures I took are to Nirrimi's. I know I didn't plan for it to happen but they do look strikingly alike, both girls have red hair, they're both in the city, and there's even a reflection shot in there. I didn't plan it to be like that though, I had planned to go onto a roof of an appartment building I knew, but when we got there it was locked so we couldn't get on, so we had to
improvise in the city and ended up finding a carpark rooftop. Also, the shoot was planned to have lots of sun in it, but it turned out to be a rainy day.

I know I didn't plan it to be like Nirrimi's work, and it's nothing like her work in the fact that her pictures are a million times better than mine, but now I've realised how similar they look. I'm wondering now if I should delete the post, or ever just the picture with the reflection.

I am actually good friends with Nirrimi, as well as a follower. I know that if I ask her she'll be too nice about it and say that they don't look anything like hers, but now I actually feel awful.

A few people have told me my work reminds me of Nirrimi's, and they have been the best compliments I've ever got. The thing is you don't choose your style in any type of art making, it's just how it's always going to come out. When I take pictures I don't think of myself having a certain style, but what people might think is my 'style' is just how my photos come out, and I can't change it. Although, I do admit those pictures looked a lot like Nirrimi's.

So a few of you asked how I scored this editorial. Well, I saw some photos that were featured in Javertime Magazine - http://www.javertime.com/magazine.htm
I loved the look of the magazine, so I emailed the editor, and asked if I could have a feature, and possibly do the editorial. I showed her my work, and she said she'd love to feature me. And that's how it worked.

And if you look at the first photo post that I ever posted on this blog, they are the first pictures I ever took with a digital SLR (this february) Before that, I took a couple of rolls of film on a film camera, and a couple of rolls on plastic lomography toy camera.

And again I want to thank all of you guys for supporting me so much. It means so much to me. Oh and I would like to show you something..

So I've somehow HTML'd out my about me section, so here's a little background info. I'm sixteen, living in Melbourne, balancing photography and school. My first ever photoshoot with a digital SLR was February this year, before that I just took lomo photos on my holga, and a few 24 frame shoots on my dads old film SLR.
